Sections of the Library

The library is separated in to several sections such as reference, reserve and main. With some exceptions, each section of the library is organized according to the LC system.

Here is a list of the sections of the Wellesley Perkins Library (top box) and Learning Resource Center Framingham Campus Library (bottom box), and the location of the sections within the library.

 

 

Sections of Perkins Library, Wellesley

Circulation Policy

Largest section of the library

To the right of the entrance to the Atrium and the left of   the Circulation Desk Area

3 weeks with renewal if book is not reserved

Reference

Encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, manuals, etc,

Next to the Math Lab

These books may be used in the library, but do not   circulate outside of the library

Periodicals

Professional journals and popular magazines in a range of   subjects

After the Main section, next to Library Conference Room B

These materials may be used in the library, but do not   circulate outside of the library

Reserve

Materials that faculty have reserved for classes, or are   reserved because they are in high demand & need to be available to as   many students as possible

Behind the circulation desk

2 hours maximum – must have a MassBay Minuteman library   card (OneCard)

Largest section of the   library

To the right of the   entrance, after the computer lab

3 weeks with renewal if book   is not reserved

Juvenile

Fiction and nonfiction   picture books

At the back of the library,   after the periodicals

3 weeks with renewal if book   is not reserved

ECE (Early   Childhood Education)

Selected ECE and Children’s   Lit reference books & print journals, supporting the ECE program

At the back of the library,   near the hallway to room 301

These resources may be used   in the library only

Oversize

Books from different   sections that are larger and need to be housed in a special area to preserve   them

Between the periodicals and   the reference section

Depending the section it was   pulled from. Most are art books & can circulate 3 weeks

Career

Books to use as resources   for career guidance and development, covering all career paths.

At the very beginning of the   reference section

Some are reference books   & do not leave the library, others can circulate for 3 weeks

Ready Reference

Books most commonly found in   a reference section, such as manuals, dictionaries and encyclopedias. These   are the more popular resources.

At the front of the   reference section for easier access

These books may be used in   the library, but do not circulate outside of the library

Reference

Encyclopedias, dictionaries,   almanacs, manuals, etc,

Under the  “Reference Books” sign

These books may be used in   the library, but do not circulate outside of the library

Periodicals

Professional journals and   popular magazines in a range of subjects

Under the “Periodicals”   sign, towards the back of the library

These materials may be used   in the library, but do not circulate outside of the library

Special

Special collection of books   in high demand, mainly Nursing and Allied Health

Behind the circulation desk

7 days maximum – must have a   MassBay Minuteman library card (OneCard)

Reserve

Materials that faculty have   reserved for classes, or are reserved because they are in high demand &   need to be available to as many students as possible
