Locating a book on the shelf


You will notice that on the end of each set of shelves (called the stacks) is a small rectangular sign with call numbers on it. Consider these signs like the top of a dictionary page. That is, for the photo above, the books in these stacks start at call number “RC 520” and end at “RM 724.”

If the book you’re looking for has the call number “RJ 673.12 .F57 2009,” then you would find it in this section because RJ is between RC and RM.

If you are looking for a book with the call number “RM 972.06 .H93,” then you would find your book on the next set of shelves, because this shelf ends with RM 724.
