Access to all Library resources, including those in this guide, are accessible on the Library's website. Library resources are available from both on and off campus to current students, faculty and staff.
You need the Library barcode number on the back of your MassBay ONE Card ID to access some of the Library datebases and other resources from off-campus. [You can also find your Library barcode number in your Bay Navigator Account. In the search box enter: library card.]
The Research Process: Getting Started
Three things you need to know before you start!
1. Research takes time! Give yourself time to think, do your research, read and process the information you find. Good students know that it often takes one hour of research time for every page in length your paper is required to be. For example: a six page paper may require six hours of research.
2. As soon as you get your research paper assignment start your research. Find your sources even if you are not planning on actually writing your paper right away. Not only because research takes time, but you may need to modify your topic once you see what you are finding. You may also want to request materials from other libraries.
3. Formulating a clear and concise research question or thesis statement is the "secret" to finding useful information and to writing a successful research paper. Look under the Find aTopic & Background Sources blue tab.
